Dr. Attila BORSOS
Associate Professor, Project Leader
He received his master’s degree in Economics from the University of Gyor, Hungary and in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. He gained his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Gyor, Hungary, where he is associate professor in the Department of Transport Infrastructure and Water Resources Engineering since 2012 and vice dean for research in the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences since 2015. He was a Visiting Scholar at Florida Atlantic University in 2013 and a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Connecticut in 2010. He was a member of the PIARC World Road Association Technical Committee 3.2 “Design and Operation of Safer Road Infrastructure” from 2012 to 2015. His main research interest is road safety, more specifically accident prediction models, traffic safety trends, surrogate measures of safety, and the effect of Autonomous Vehicles on safe road design.
Prof. Csaba KOREN
Professor Emeritus
He received his master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Budapest University of Technology in 1972. He gained his PhD in Civil Engineering from the same university in 1978. He had been working with the Transport Research Institute in Budapest until 1977, when he moved to the University of Gyor. Starting from the lecturer position he became a full professor in 1996. His teaching activity focused on road design, traffic engineering and urban sustainability. He held different management functions for several years, including the position of vice-rector. He had been a head of the Department of Transport Infrastructure for about 20 years. He was a member of PIARC World Road Association Technical Committees for 16 years, chairing the Roads in Urban Areas committee for four years. He is a member of several international editorial boards. He has been a supervisor of seven successful PhD candidates. His main research interest is road safety, more specifically Road Safety Audits and Road Safety Impact Assessment. He regularly organizes road safety auditor courses and follow-up trainings. In 2018 he retired, but he is still active in teaching, research and consultancy.
Zsófia MAGYARI
PhD Student , Assistant Lecturer
She is a PhD student, her main research interest is road safety, more specifically three dimensional visibility at intersections and the visibility requirements for Autonomous Vehicles. She received her master’s degree in Civil Engineering from University of Gyor, Hungary in 2014 and her bachelor’s degree in Land surveying from University of West-Hungary in 2010. She has been working in the Department of Transport Infrastructure and Water Resources Engineering, at University of Gyor since 2011. Currently she is assistant lecturer teaching Surveying and Geoinfomatics.
Richárd NAGY
PhD Student, Assistant Lecturer
He received his master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Győr, Hungary. Currently he is a PhD Student in Civil Engineering at the University of Győr, where he is also an assistant lecturer in the Department of Transport Infrastructure and Water Resources Engineering since 2017. His PhD topic is the investigation of the railway deterioration process by means of modern mathematical methods, like artificial neural networks. His other research interests are road pavement design with computer-aided methods and the effect of Autonomous Vehicles on road pavement design.
Dr. Petra SZAKONYI
Assistant Professor, Horizon Europe coordinator
She received her bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Győr, Hungary and master’s degree in Urban Planning from Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary. She gained her PhD in Transport Engineering from the University of Győr, Hungary, where she is assistant professor in the Department of Transport Infrastructure and Water Resources Engineering since 2018. She is also the coordinator of the university’s H2020 & Horizon Europe Infopoint and responsible for the coordination and development of H2020 projects. Before her university career she was strategic planner of the city of Győr for 11 years. She was in charge of the city’s transportation related projects. Her main research interest is urban planning, sustainable settlement and transport development, and the effect of Autonomous Vehicles on urban structure.
Dr. Emese MAKO

She received her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Gyor, Hungary and her master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia. She gained her PhD in Theory and Structures of Civil Engineering from Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia as well in 2005. She is an associate professor in the Department of Transport Infrastructure and Water Resources Engineering, at the University of Gyor since 2006 and head of the same department since 2013. She was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Alan M. Voorhees Transportation Center, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, United States from 2002 to 2003. She was a member of the PIARC World Road Association, Technical Committee B3.3 Sustainable Urban Mobility and leader of its Subcommittee Nonmotorized Mobility from 2008 to 2011. Her main research interest is road safety, more specifically traffic safety of pedestrians and bicyclists, and the effect of vulnerable road users on safe road design for Autonomous Vehicles.
